Understanding the Science of Early Childhood Learning

Please check out NPR’s story titled:

How To Help Your Child’s Brain Grow Up Strong

How the Mind Grows from Conception to College

by Sandra, Ph.D. Aamodt, Sam, Ph.D. Wang and Ellen Galinsky

Hardcover, 314 pages

It is so encouraging to have the scientific world agreeing with the psychological and parenting information and knowledge bases.  Yes, having fun while teaching concepts to children is the best way for kids to learn.

We all enjoy having safe, fun experiences while building skills and learning new concepts.  Even adults appreciate this type of learning environment.

I smiled at the author’s recommendation that instead of telling a child to “stand still,” to tell them to pretend that they are guarding a castle.  I’m not sure what kind of “stillness” that would bring to my feet (don’t castle guards march around the top of the castle walls?)–but it is the idea that using a child’s creative imagination plus the ability to follow instructions which helps to achieve the final outcome of focusing upon the request.

I do hope you find some pearls that will help you in achieving FUN and LEARNING with your child.
